Our typefaces are versatile, creative, and expressive—embodying the voice of the university.
FF Real Head
Northeastern’s primary print typeface is FF Real, an all-purpose typeface that includes a range of weights that work in any environment.
DIGITAL
Lato
Northeastern’s primary digital display typeface is Lato. It’s one of the most versatile, unique font families for digital applications.
ALTERNATE DISPLAY TYPE
Secondary Typefaces
Our secondary display types convey specific moods ranging from bold and serious, to whimsical. These options allow for more creativity and brand expression.
- Noe
- Tungsten Rounded
- Netto
- Genath
- Duplicate Sans
- Morion
Alternate typography doesn’t replace our primary font and shouldn’t overshadow the primary typeface. Use the secondary typefaces sparingly and with intention to differentiate the content. For example, you might want to use these types for numbers in infographics or sidebar callouts.
Compatibility
Typefaces are designed to work on both Macs and PCs. Each typeface can be loaded onto a single computer. Loading a typeface onto multiple computers is a violation of the university’s vendor agreement.
Font Licenses
FF Real
Freelancers, outside contractors, advertising agencies, and other suppliers are independent entities, and each needs their own font license. Northeastern employees can purchase a license for a contractor from Reprographics for university projects only. Typefaces are $6 per license and you may obtain up to five licenses. Alternatively, the outside contractor can download fonts via Adobe Creative Suite.
Lato
Lato is an open source font and available for free via Google Fonts or with an Adobe Fonts account.
